*Kinmen 金門

As a territory of Taiwan, Kinmen is located by the east coast of Fujian province, very close to Xiamen, China. Airliners connect Kinmen with major cities in Taiwan. It's difficult to buy a ticket during traditional holidays, when Kinmenese people working or studying in Taiwan want to go home. Also the weather can be foggy and the airport is closed from time to time.

These are the "Wind Lion Gods", the statues are usually erected at the entrance of a village,  to protect the inhabitants from evil spirits and disasters.

Because of its military importance, Kinmen was home to millions of soldiers. Slogans such as "Long live the ROC" scatter across the island.

Fortress, outpost, tunnels, battlefield museums, and even broadcast stations, are among the tourist attractions frequented by tourists.

As Kinmen transformed from a military base to a tourist destination, remains from the military became the symbols of past.

Kinmen also has her natural beauty and cultural heritage. Forty years of military control have slowed the pace of Kinmen’s urbanization, enabling its historical heritage to be preserved. Thanks to the businessmen who ventured to Southeast Asia and use the fortune they earned there to build houses back in their hometown Kinmen, we can see exotic architecture mixed with traditional ones. Military control also helped mother nature because the coasts were protected from "intruders" by land mines.
